This garden was a great candidate for SoCal Water$mart Turf Replacement Rebate Program. I designed a whimsical meadow garden to match the home’s cottage aesthetic. This yard received over $6,000 in rebates after installation was completed!

A landscape contracting team removed the turf in October and sheet mulched for a month before the plants were installed. Late summer and fall is the optimum time to sheet mulch so that the soil is ready for planting in the winter and spring.
As part of your Wildernest Design, plants are grouped according to their water requirements so that appropriate irrigation is installed. to ensure your new plants’ longevity. It pays to have a plan, because your designer makes decisions based on aesthetics, fire safety, local ecology, and water conservation.
Installing smaller plants will save money and allow a more robust root system to develop. Another perk of having a Wildernest Design is that the mature plant size is considered and in SoCal, plants grow fast if they’re happy!
Just look at these low-maintenance, low-water-use plants taking off in late summer! Dried up lawn who?!
And you’ve got a pollinator’s paradise with climate-appropriate herbaceous perennial plants like Lavender and Artemisia and glorious California natives like Apricot Mallow and the Palo Verde tree.
This garden will continue to flourish, because the Wildernest Design plan prioritized ecology and biodiversity, as well as overall curb appeal.
